the Seoul School of Integrated Sciences and Technologies received its approval for official university standing from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development in 2003. At the end of 2003, Professor David N. Smith, former Vice-Dean of Harvard Law School, was appointed aSSIST's president becoming the first foreigner to become a president/dean of a university (undergraduate or graduate) in Korea.
